Year 7 LTTO Learning Through The Outdoors
Setting the Foundations for Success
Year 7 is an exciting time when students embark on their journey into the truest aspects of Outdoor & Adventure Education through our Learning Through the Outdoors (LTTO) programme. We carefully guide them as they transition to full days of outdoor learning, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.
· Support in Transitioning to Full Days: Adjusting to full days outdoors is an adventure in itself! We help students find their footing, providing encouragement and guidance as they build confidence in new environments.
· Fostering Independence: Year 7 is all about helping students take their first steps toward independence. While our team offers plenty of support, students are encouraged to make some decisions and take ownership of their learning.
· Learning Fundamental Outdoor Skills: From basic navigation, rock climbing, bushcraft and problem-solving, students acquire the essential skills that lay the foundation for success in future challenges and for success elsewhere in their lives!
· Tailored Challenges with Room for Freedom: Our experienced teachers carefully set the level of challenge, ensuring it’s often achievable, motivating and challenging. Students also enjoy moments of freedom, learning to explore and engage with the natural world in their own unique ways.
· Core Values: Attitude, Preparedness, Honesty: We encourage students to set three personal aims, which become their guiding principles throughout the programme:
1. A positive Attitude toward challenges and teamwork.
2. Being Prepared for every activity with the right mindset and equipment.
3. Practicing Honesty with themselves and others, fostering trust and integrity.
· Year 7 Adventure Camp: The highlight of the year! This camp is designed to bring learning to life, with students testing their new skills in a fun, supportive and exciting outdoor environment. The activities undertaken on camp are set to the needs of the students – but always involves students choosing their own bedtimes, river swimming, homemade pizza and telling stories around an open fire.
