Year 8 Learning Through The Outdoors
Building Confidence and Advancing Skills
In Year 8, students take their outdoor learning to the next level, with more time offsite and increasingly challenging activities.
Full Days Offsite with Increasing Challenge: Students spend most of their days offsite, exploring new terrains and tackling challenges that build on their Year 7 experiences.
Improved Independence with Tailored Support: As students grow more confident, they’re encouraged to work more independently, with teachers providing support when needed.
Expanding Skills and Honing Expertise: Building on fundamental outdoor skills, students begin mastering specific abilities linked to navigation, rock climbing, advanced bushcraft skills, problem-solving and teamwork as they learn to adapt to various situations in challenging environments.
Collaborative Challenges: Both teachers and students work together to determine the right level of challenge. This collaboration helps students take ownership of their learning and push their boundaries safely.
Increased Opportunities for Freedom: Students enjoy more autonomy, taking responsibility for key decisions and developing self-reliance in real-world situations.
Year 8 Bushcraft Camp: This immersive camp focuses on thriving in a natural woodland setting, through setting up their own bushcraft camp, cooking their own meals and immersing themselves in the wilderness. This provides students with unforgettable experiences and a deeper connection to the natural world.
