Year 9 Learning Through The Outdoors
Mastering Challenges and Leading the Way
Year 9 is the pinnacle of the LTTO programme, where students step into their roles as confident, capable young adventurers who are expected to seek out challenge!
Long and Challenging Days Outdoors: Activities become more rigorous, offering students the chance to test their limits and discover their resilience through extended and demanding days spent in the wonderful natural world surrounding North Wales.
Increased Autonomy: By this stage, students are expected to arrive prepared for every lesson without reminders. This shift promotes responsibility, initiative, and a proactive approach to challenges. Ownership of their actions is expected and encouraged to prepare them for the real world.
Mastery of Fundamental Skills: Students are now proficient in the core skills learned in earlier years, giving them a solid foundation to tackle more complex tasks and challenges.
Student-Led Challenges: The level of challenge is often dictated by the students themselves and the natural environment. This empowers them to assess risks, make decisions, and adapt in real-time.
Freedom to Act and Decide ‘In-Action’: Students are given significant independence to make decisions in the moment, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in a supportive setting. The consequences of these actions, where appropriate are allowed to play out.
Year 9 Mountain Expedition: The grand finale of the LTTO journey! This multi-day mountain expedition is an unforgettable adventure where students put their skills to the test, celebrate their achievements, and forge lifelong memories. The activities undertaken are specific to the needs, abilities and skill set of the individual!
Our LTTO program is designed to inspire a love for the outdoors while fostering independence, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment. These experiences not only enrich students’ lives but also prepare them for challenges both in and out of the classroom.
