At Myddelton Preparatory School, we understand that our role is not only to teach our students the skills and knowledge wanted by their future employers, but also to equip them with the skills needed to thrive in the 21st Century. We know that to get the best out of a child, both in terms of learning and personal development, they need to feel supported and safe.
As well as having extremely high academic expectations of all of our pupils, we pride ourselves on our broad and balanced curriculum. In addition to being taught the core subjects, English, Maths and Science by their classroom tutor, our pupils are also fortunate enough to be taught subjects such as Spanish, computing, music, drama and sport by subject-specialist teachers from the senior school.
In order to help our young Myddeltonians become well-rounded individuals who are able to thrive in the 21st Century, they are introduced to mindfulness from an early age. We teach the Paws B curriculum which has been developed by the Mindfulness in Schools Project. We believe that teaching mindfulness from a young age gives our students the ability to handle their emotions, and become well-balanced individuals. Individuals who feel heard and cared for, can get on with their day and work enthusiastically, without undue worries.
In addition, our students enjoy Outdoor Adventure classes every fortnight. During these sessions, not only do they have the opportunity to apply, develop and enhance the skills learnt in their classroom sessions, but they also get to learn new skills, such as working as a team, adapting to change, taking responsibility for themselves, and most importantly, having fun!
Technology has completely changed the way we learn at Myddelton Prep, bringing an era of genuine personalisation. Each student has their own device, which they take home in the evening. All lessons are available online, for parents and pupils to look through before and after lessons. Pupils are able to access support and challenge within lessons, which encourages our pupils to become independent learners.
Several teachers, including our Head of Preparatory School, Mrs Katie Gresley-Jones, are recognised MISSs (Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts). With this technology we are able to attend virtual field trips and skype lessons with experts from all around the world.
Pupils at Myddelton Prep gain a unique cultural experience. We have pupils from several different nationalities, which shapes and diversifies our curriculum. Students learn about and celebrate a range of different festivals throughout the year, such as the Hindu Holi Festival where we take part in the tradition of throwing coloured paint powders to symbolise the arrival of spring.
We also have strong links with the local community and participate in local events with organisations such as the Denbigh Midsummer Festival and Denbigh in Bloom. We host a number of academic events for young people in the local area to compete in and enjoy.
We fully encourage the integration of the Prep School into Myddelton College through the use of our House System. Students are assigned to Houses when they begin their journey at Myddelton, and will take part in many activities in their Houses throughout the school year.
Our students are happy, confident and articulate individuals, we are looking forward to welcoming you to our Myddelton Prep family, where small class sizes and a diverse student community go hand-in-hand with personal development.
